Meetings Overview
At the center of our meetings philosophy is the idea of making meetings action-oriented and involving only the people who are driving that action or have the most context about it. This approach aims to enhance productivity and make decision-making more efficient.
Action Oriented Meetings
Meetings should have a clear objective and conclude with a set of actionable outcomes. To facilitate this, every meeting should start with a clearly defined agenda shared in advance.
Involving Only the Right People
As a general rule of thumb, meetings should consist of people who are involved in the actions being taken or have the most context about them. This ensures meetings are productive and decision-making is efficient. If you are invited to a meeting where you don't feel you'll be able to add value, feel free to decline. However, if you do join a meeting, you are expected to be present and engaged.
Prefer documentation over meetings
As a remote company, we communicate largely asynchronously, making documentation a vital component of our communication. Comprehensive documentation is often the best way to communicate new information and can frequently replace meetings. If you are creating a new meeting centered around sharing new information, reconsider building documentation instead.
Encouraging a culture of written communication ensures that information is recorded and easily accessible for future reference. This includes everything from daily updates to complex project plans. Written communication helps maintain a consistent understanding across the team and aids in onboarding new members efficiently.
Use Loom videos to communicate where a screen share is needed, and request a Fathom account if you'd like to begin recording your meetings so that knowledge can be more easily shared and referenced
